Can you get a job in Bulgaria without speaking Bulgarian?

Yes — most multilingual customer support, moderation, and tech jobs are conducted entirely in English or in the market language you support (German, French, Italian, Dutch, Nordic, Hebrew, Arabic, etc.). Bulgarian is a nice-to-have for daily life, not a hiring requirement.

Is social media moderation a good career start?

It is one of the best entry points into the broader trust-and-safety industry. You learn policy, judgment, queue discipline, and case escalation — skills that transfer directly to QA, policy analyst, team lead, and product trust roles within 12–24 months.

Customer support vs content moderation: which fits you better?

Customer support suits people who enjoy resolving concrete problems and talking to humans. Moderation suits people who can read calmly under volume, apply written guidelines consistently, and detach emotionally from intense content. Both pay similarly at entry level in Sofia.

Is Sofia a good city for expats looking for work?

Yes, especially for multilingual Europeans in their 20s and 30s. The expat community is small but tight, English works everywhere downtown, rent is fair, and public transport is genuinely good. The trade-off: nightlife and dating scenes are smaller than Berlin or Lisbon.

Do I need a visa or work permit?

EU/EEA/Swiss citizens: no. You register at the migration office within 90 days of arrival. Non-EU: yes, you need an EU long-term residence permit or a Bulgarian single permit before you can sign.

How fast does the hiring process move?

Most multilingual employers in Sofia (including us) reply within 6–7 days and run a 2-step interview that takes 10–14 days end-to-end. You can realistically go from first email to signed offer in three weeks.

What languages are most in demand right now?

German, French, Italian, Dutch, Nordic languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish), Hebrew, and Arabic. Native or near-native is the bar. Bonus pay is common for rare combinations.
